SOL Day 31 – A Laugh

When I woke up this morning, I figured my final post would be a reflection of my 31 days of blogging. But then my friend Claire called, and suddenly reflecting on 31 days didn’t seem as important as capturing the joy of hearing from this beautiful friend.

Claire – more affectionately referred to as Claire Bear.

Let me tell you, when I first met Claire, my freshman year of college, she terrified me. Yup, that’s right, the person I referred to up above as a beautiful friend had me shaking in my boots. You see, she was very very loud and I was very very quiet. She lived across the hall from me and you could hear her laugh from almost anywhere in the building. She and her roommate were a whole lot of sound, and for quiet me that was intimidating. But then I met her and all my first impressions of her and what the loudness entailed disappeared.

Now her laugh is a sound that I long to hear and when I hear it I cannot help but laugh and smile. Claire is always full of stories, funny stories, that cause her to laugh and everyone around her to laugh as well. But the laugh is just the beginning. Claire sings beautifully. She visited me when I lived in New York and sang karaoke at my local bar…we didn’t pay for a drink the rest of the night. Claire also gives the world’s best hugs. I swear, if everyone in the world could get a hug from Claire I think it would be a more peaceful place. Claire is kind. Claire is smart. Claire is a best friend.

So, a laugh from Claire over the phone trumped a night of reflecting. Don’t get me wrong, I learned a lot this month, but I think my biggest learning was to write what you feel is important in the moment. Tonight Claire was important.

I love this line; “I think my biggest learning was to write what you feel is important in the moment.”

  2. I hope Claire gets to read this. You did reflect by writing what was currently in your heart and on your mind. Claire sounds like an incredible friend to have around.
