Many moons ago (like too many to count, I was probably 8 at the time), Caitlin and I awoke bright and early from our sleepover. The sun had not yet fully risen, but we were awake and ready for fun.
“What should we do?” I whispered into the lightening room.
“Hmmm, I don’t know. Any good ideas?” Caitlin replied.
We thought in silence for a moment and then it came to me. The perfect early morning game. I explained my plan to Caitlin and she agreed, so we readied ourselves. We picked up our pillows and shoved the under our shirts. We picked up our blankets and tied them around our necks. Then we each stood on our beds (twin beds on opposite walls), counted to three, and leaped across to the opposite bed, smashed into the wall, and collapsed in a heap of giggles on each of our beds.
“Let’s do it again!” Caitlin exclaimed. “It’s amazing to be a bug smashing on a windshield.”
And that is how we invented the game “Bugs.” Never mind the unhappy parents on the other side of the wall.
Oh how I miss the days of Saturday morning cartoons and games with our sleepover friends or siblings! Life was just so much easier! Thanks for taking me back!
